Kobe Municipal Arboretum is famous for its early summer hydrangeas and autumn leaves, however it\u2019s incredibly cold for plants here now. Thanks to the Arboretum even in this harsh environment, you can indulge in Mt. Rokko\u2019s wonderful nature with a winter perspective. Today, we will show you around the Arboretum and share interesting and enjoyable experiences with you.

\nKobe Municipal Arboretum is conveniently located, it\u2019s about a 25-minute drive away from downtown Kobe.
\nAfter you enter the Arboretum from the main entrance, the Forest Exhibition Hall will welcome you.\"\"

\nThere is a botanical art exhibition, which features some works from a pioneer Japanese botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino, has been taking place on the second floor of the hall. There are a variety of artworks associated with local plants, and it is interesting to note that some of the plants were discovered and named by Dr. Makino.

\nOnigurumi (Japanese walnut)
\nOnigurumi is known as the only edible Japanese walnut.
\nThe leaf scar of Onigurumi looks like the face of a sheep. The parts of the scar, which are like a mouth, eyes and a nose, function as important paths for water and nutrition.<\/p>\n

\nSpicebush
\nThe blooming season of spicebush is early spring (March \u2013 April). As time goes by, a sharp-pointed leaf bud (in the center) and round-shaped flower buds (around the leaf bud) will swell gradually.<\/p>\n

\nThe Spring Fairy Area is the area where spring plants are organized inside the Rock Garden. In this area, many kinds of flowers are going to bloom one after another. One of the most beautiful flowers \u201cBaikaoren (Coptis quinquefolia)\u201d will bloom this month.<\/p>\n
