Route No.1
Origin and History of the name of Nunobiki
Nunobiki Falls are located on the mountainside of Shin-Kobe Station and spans the middle reaches of the Ikuta River. Selected as one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan, Nunobiki Falls is the collective name for four waterfalls: Ontaki Waterfall, Mentaki Waterfall, Meoto Waterfall, and Tsuzumigataki Waterfall. Of these, Ontaki Falls is the most famous at 43 meters high. It is known as one of the three great waterfalls along with Nachi Falls and Kegon Falls.
Sarunokazura Bridge was built by effectively utilizing the vines of hardy kiwi and decorating the Saru no Kakehashi (monkey bridge) upstream of Nunobiki Falls to resemble the Iyanokazura Bridge in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of Mt. Rokko into the Seto Inland Sea National Park.
