❸ Ueno Road

Known together with the Aotani Road as a pilgrimage route to the former Tenjoji temple, which has been turned into a historical park, this is the shortest route on the Mt. Maya trail.
There are many historical remains scattered throughout the Maya View Line Niji no Eki Station - Mayasan Historical Park - Mt. Maya, from the Middle Ages to the Modern Period. The route offers a true sense of history as visitors explore the Maya remains and imagine what it was like.

History

Origin and History of the name of Ueno Road

Ueno Road

This is the main approach to the former Mayasan Tenjoji temple located on the west side of the Maya cable ridge. It used to be a popular place visited by many people including visitors to Tenjoji Temple, bustling with restaurants and lodging facilities. Today, the remains of the former Tenjoji Temple which was destroyed by a fire, a salon from the Taisho Period, and lodging facilities from the early Showa Period are preserved as the Kobe Maya Ruins, allowing visitors to imagine the faith and lifestyle of the people in the past.

Ten-million dollar buddha observatory ruins

The view from Gokishiro Observatory Park near the starting point of Ueno Road is also attractive, but this spot also offers a panoramic view worth seeing. It is located near the area where Ueno Road meets Niji no Eki Station.

Still makes its presence felt despite having withered away due to a fire. Its trunk is 8 meters thick.

Parent-child cedar of the former Tennoji Temple

Parent-child cedar of the former Tennoji Temple

The parent-child cedar tree that has fallen over at the remains of the former Tenjoji Temple is a giant "mother tree" that is over 100 years old, with a trunk circumference of 445 centimeters and a height of 25 meters. Visitors have to crouch to pass under this parent-child cedar tree. (It fell over in September 2018 due to the strong winds of Typhoon No. 20.)
