Connections rooted in words (Kotonoha)
Located an 8-minute walk from Suma's Myohoji Station, this renovated 200-year-old folk house opened in June 2022 as a cafe. Despite being a hidden gem in a residential area, it attracts many hikers returning from the nearby Mt. Yokoo and Mt. Higashi, which are part of the Rokko Traverse. Behind Folk House Kotonoha lies a bamboo grove, where a bamboo forest cafe offers dining in an open-air setting and events utilizing the bamboo grove are held. Moreover, they provide experiences for children to experience the four seasons of Japan and learn about Japanese culture, history, and customs through meals and events. Regardless of the purpose or generation of visitors to Folk House Kotonoha, engaging conversations and interactions are sparked over delicious meals. The heartfelt desire of the owner couple to enrich nature, the community, and the next generation is conveyed, creating a place embraced by the warmth of support from the local community.
Bamboo grove cafe reservations are accepted until 2:00 PM the day before.
You can also participate in or observe projects such as bamboo grove maintenance twice a month on the days where the Myohoji Bamboo Support Team is active (every second and fourth Sunday morning).
